Jessica Doner

Assistant Lecturer for Computer Science and Cybersecurity
Eastern Washington University, Cheney, Washington

I teach Java, C and Unix, and cybersecurity at Eastern Washington University. Outside class I build the practice sites my students use: APE practice, Unix practice rooms, lab-day capture-the-flag boards, and a job board for the Spokane area. My goal is to create tools that are genuinely useful and make a difference.

I have a Bachelor of Computer Science with minors in mathematics and cybersecurity (2023) and an M.S. in Applied Mathematics (2026), both from EWU. My master's thesis built a mixed-integer linear programming model for university course scheduling from public registration data.

What I teach this fall

CSCD 210 Programming Principles I Information representation, algorithms, and program design in Java.
CSCD 240 C and Unix Programming Unix practice rooms worked in a real terminal, and in-lab challenges.
CYBR 101 Cybersecurity Fundamentals The lab site, where each lab's challenges open at the start of that lab.

Tools I built for students

Research

My master's thesis is Optimizing University Course Schedules via Mixed-Integer Linear Programming: A Method Built on Public Registration Data, for the M.S. in Applied Mathematics at EWU (2026). My advisor was Frank Lynch.
